Literary Arts has been an integral part of the Scarab Club for years dating back to its first-ever beam signatory, a poet named Vachael Lindsey, in 1928. Luminous words have decorated the organization through bulletins, beam signings, and even in a time capsule. (A poem by Gordon Damon, along with other items, was placed inside a time capsule sealed within the building brick.)
The Scarab Club has several in-house poets in addition to its alliance with the Springfed Arts-Metro Detroit Writers organization. These groups work closely together to offer readings and workshops to the public throughout the year.
Love poetry but lack the skill for writing? Join us every Sunday afternoon from 2 pm – 4 pm for the “Downtown Literary Arts Series” where you can enjoy free readings by local and national writers.
Think you have a knack for writing? Join us for one of our six-week writing workshops. The fee is $100 for Scarab Club Members (or Springfed Arts-MDW members) and $140 for non-members. Registration is required before workshops begin. See Education for writing workshop schedule and registration form.
